FAQ Ha Giang

Most of our guides have certificates in First Aid and CPR. Sapa Sisters regularly arrange 2 days of classes for all staff.

According to Vietnamese law (Starting from Aug 2019), all travel companies have to buy insurance for their customers. We buy insurance for all guests trekking with us. To do this we will need the name and passport numbers of all travelers.

This insurance covers a small portion of costs in the event of an accident during the trek.

We highly recommend that you have your own travel insurance.

For your protection, we strongly recommend the purchase of travel insurance. Travel insurance provides you with trip cancellation/interruption, travel delay, medical expenses, emergency assistance, air flight, baggage and baggage delay coverages to protect your financial investment. Medical coverage purchased with your policy will also satisfy our requirement for health insurance.

No, we only do private tours.

The roads in Ha Giang are steep, with sharp turns and unpredictable traffic. They are beautiful, and they are genuinely demanding. We don’t recommend riding yourself unless you have real experience on mountain roads.

If you do want to ride, you need a valid motorbike licence. In Vietnam that means a full motorcycle licence from home together with an International Driving Permit issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention. IDPs from some countries, including the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, are issued under a different convention and are not accepted here.

We will hold your passport for the duration of the tour and return it afterwards. If the bike is damaged during the trip, the repair cost is yours.

Police check licences along all the main routes in Ha Giang. Fines are substantial, and riding without a valid licence also means your travel insurance will not cover you if anything happens. For those reasons we cannot arrange a self-drive tour for anyone without a valid licence.

If you don’t have one, or would rather not ride, you can add a driver. Every driver we work with is a licensed professional. You sit on the back and enjoy the view. You will find the price on our Ha Giang booking page.
