Sapa

Sapa Trekking, Market Tours & Homestays

Choose from 1- to 5-day Sapa trekking tours, visit local markets, and spend the night in a homestay or even at your guide’s house. You can also try cooking local dishes, climb Fansipan, join a batik class or take part in the rice harvest. Each trek is private and built around your interests, fitness level, and the weather. What kind of adventure are you looking for?

A typical private trek in Sapa starts around 9 AM, meeting at our office before heading into the mountains and valleys. Trails wind through terraced rice fields, quiet mountain paths, and across rivers via scenic footbridges. If you’re visiting in summer, pack a swimsuit and ask your guide about swimming spots—a great way to cool down after a few hours on the trail.

Whether you want a challenging climb, a relaxed walk through minority villages, or a cultural deep-dive, we’ll design a Sapa trekking experience that suits you. With Sapa Sisters, your trek is about discovering off-the-beaten-path trails, breathtaking landscapes, and the real Sapa at your own pace.

Homestay

We offer 2-5 day treks with homestays, a fantastic way to explore Sapa Valley and escape the city. Homestays are family-run inns in the valley, where you’ll wake up surrounded by stunning scenery.

Guests typically share a loft room on the second floor of a traditional house, while the host family lives separately. Some homestays offer private rooms for an additional fee—let us know when you book if you’d like one. All homestays provide hot showers, western-style toilets, comfortable beds, and delicious traditional food. They are clean, safe, and welcoming.

Stay Overnight in a Local House

Some of the Sapa Sisters guides welcome travelers to stay in their homes or with a family member. Nowadays, most local houses have showers and western-style toilets, but amenities can vary. If having these is important to you, please let us know when booking your trek, and we’ll ensure the right arrangements are made

Lunch

After trekking downhill, we can either stop at a restaurant for lunch or prepare a meal in a local house.

If you choose a local house, your guide or the hosting family will cook. Sometimes, you can shop for groceries together on the way. You’re welcome to join in and learn how to make H’mong food (though we don’t offer formal cooking classes). Some guides take you to their own home or a family member’s house.

We can accommodate most dietary restrictions—just let us know!

Trekking with Children

We are happy to welcome parents with children to trek with us. We offer discounts for younger children and children 2 years or younger, trek for free.

We know from experience that children often are stronger hikers than their parents may think, but of course, their energy might run out. Our guides are flexible to arrange the tour to fit your family’s needs all throughout the trek.

We can arrange tours that start by going down the valley by car you can then have a short walk and visit some villages and maybe have lunch in your guide’s home.

If you prefer to do it all by car, we can arrange that as well. You can still have lunch in local houses and sleep overnight in a homestay.

Sometimes our guides bring their own baby with them on the trek.

Hotels

We have partnered with hotels in Sapa and can offer better rates for customers who are trekking with us and want to explore the city on their own before or after their trek. Please let us know your budget and we will be happy to make a recommendation.

For your information!

We would like to make you aware of an issue you may encounter during your trek. This concerns local villagers selling goods to travelers along the trails, which some may find uncomfortable. These women often follow travelers, offering their wares and sometimes appearing “pushy.” The best way to handle this is to politely but firmly decline if you are not interested in purchasing anything. It can be difficult for our guides to ask them to leave, as these women are often from the same villages or even directly related to them. Asking them to leave could create conflicts for our guides when they return to their villages. These sellers are in no way affiliated with, employed by, or encouraged by Sapa Sisters.
